This Diwali, while we light lamps in our homes, thousands of gaumatas wander abandoned and hungry. They are revered as mothers in our tradition, yet many face danger on the streets and in slaughterhouses. Gaushalas become sanctuaries of dharma, giving them safety, love and care
Jiyaguda Gaushala, run by Shri Sadguru Samartha Narayana Ashram, has been protecting abandoned, aged and injured cows for years. Rooted in the belief that nature and humanity must exist in harmony, the Ashram dedicates itself to the service of gaumata every single day.
The gaushala is home to more than 6500 cows. Every day, they require 45,000 to 50,000 kgs of fodder. Volunteers rescue cows from across the region so they can live in peace. Each cow receives clean water, medical care and a healing space when ill. The Ashram also practices Vegetable Seva, where devotees lovingly feed fresh vegetables and nutritious food each week, connecting hearts with gaumata.
Feeding thousands of cows daily has become a tremendous responsibility. Without support, many may go to sleep hungry. This Diwali, instead of lighting only lamps, light up the life of a sacred being. Offer fodder. Perform gaumata seva. Receive the eternal blessings of Diwali in the purest form.
